Being a former college athlete, I was so routine based in my everyday life. During the season, my routine was wake-up, class, practice, lift, homework, maybe video games to relax with the boys, bed, and then back at 8 hours later. When I was in that routine, I was a machine. I felt focused, more energetic, just in a better mood about life because I knew I was being efficient.  That brings me to my first point of how routines are important in life. By being efficient and having your every half-hour planned out, it reduces the need to make decisions. You just follow your conscious. Like I said prior, I just felt good and more energetic which built a lot of momentum in life for me. The first week or two of your routine might suck. You might hate it. Personally, lifting sucked after practice. But after that second week of building momentum, everything comes easier. When you have all that momentum and your feeling efficient, it just eliminates procrastination. Which is my final point. You don’t procrastinate as much in a routine because you know the mental, physical, financial, whatever benefits it has for you and you can see/feel the reward at the end of the day/week/month/year. I know routines can be broken for both good and bad reasons. Like if someone asks you to get drinks after work, don’t say no. Go and make the most of it, have fun. Just making sure that next day or even hour, your hopping right back into that routine. As long as your routine is beneficial for your mind, body, and image, commit to it.

Shoot me an email of what your routine is and what benefits you see from it!
